Seed Spacing Start Indoors
Thinning Start indoors; plant 18" apart outside
Germination 10 – 20 days
Start Indoors RECOMMENDED. 10 to 12 weeks before your average last frost date. Transplant outdoors 1 to 2 weeks after last frost, when soil temperature is at least 60°F, and outside night air temperature is above 60°F.
Direct Sow 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 70°F, ideally 80°‒90°F, and when outside night air temperature is above 60°F.
Special Care In areas where cool soil is a concern, growing eggplant in dark-colored containers or using black plastic mulch will warms the soil. The best method of watering when using plastic mulch is drip irrigation, or a soaker hose underneath the plastic.
Growing & Harvesting Jewel Amethyst' should be harvested when the fruit is 3"–4 ½" long and the skin is still shiny. If you are in doubt about maturity level, note that it’s better to harvest eggplants a little young rather than wait until they are overly mature with dull skin, eventually possibly turning a golden color, with plentiful seeds, and bitter taste. To harvest, cut the stem with pruners. Continual harvest will encourage more production.

    White Eggplant

I was waiting for them to turn purple, it's not happened and the white ones are so hard and not good at all.

    Perfect little eggplants...but white!!

Just chiming in to say that mine, too are white! I thought maybe they start out as white and turn purple as they go but it looks like the white eggplants are a common issue this summer. Alas, hopefully I can get some actually purple eggplants next season.

Eggplants are not purple as advertised

This is my first eggplant and I watched it daily because I was waiting for it to transition from cream to purple as shown on the packet. Instead, it went from cream to pale yellow and is now golden yellow. It is approximately 3 inches long, but I have not harvested it because I was waiting for the advertised purple color. I sent the picture to AI apps for advice on harvesting and according to them, this eggplant is overripe and probably not good to eat because it will be tough and bitter. If that is true, it is disappointing because I was looking forward to harvesting this especially since it took a while to get to this size. I gave this a 3 star because the plant is productive and I count about 10 eggplants growing right now but they are all cream color not purple. I don’t know when I’m supposed to harvest them since the packet says “glossy purple fruits” which mine are neither. Also, I sold a couple of my extra seedlings and if my buyers are experiencing the same thing, I’m anxious that they might blame me for false advertising. ☹ I should’ve read the reviews before buying the seeds.

I guess I got the packet of white eggplant seeds too…

I was really hoping that these were Jewel Amethyst. I grew a bunch of plants and sold them to my gardening clients as Jewell Amethyst. My four plants all produced small white eggplants, so I’m assuming there’s did too. I didn’t really love them cooked either. They were very firm, plain, and didn’t last very long in the fridge. I do love everything that I’ve grown from Botanical Interests, and I’m sure it was just an honest mistake with packaging.
